A scriptural scavenger hunt
I have been focused recently on Acts 2:42: They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. (NASB) It strikes me that when we want to measure how our churches are doing, this becomes a powerful verse to consider.In particular, I want to focus on the first of these items. How many of us can say that we devote ourselves to the apostles' teaching? Sure, we may with varying degrees of consistency read the scripture, but do we know what the scriptures say about topics of relevance to us today?
I am convinced that scripture is as relevant today as it was when it was written. Remember that the "Word of God is living and active" (Hebrews 4:12). Remember too that he has "given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him" (2 Peter 1:3). But how often do we consider what scripture says when we examine the issues in the world around us?
I'm going to list some contemporary topics, and I would be very interested to have people comment about where they can find scripture that addresses these issues. The point of this exercise is NOT to determine a Christian perspective on these issues. Rather, the point is to determine if we know where to find what scriptures says about such topics. How readily can you find scripture that addresses these issues?
1. Poverty
2. Retirement
3. Privacy
4. Working
5. Paying Taxes
6. Our "rights"
7. Immigration
So - anyone care to comment on where they can find scripture that addresses these topics?
