Complete In Thee, by Aaron Wolfe

Complete In Thee is a hymn which I had never heard before last month. It was written by Aaron Wolfe, and it is not in any of the hymnbooks I have. Not in the Broadman Hymnal, the Service Hymnal, the Hymnal for Worship & Celebration, or Favorite Hymns Of Praise. And since that's pretty much the list of hymnbooks our church has used in the last few decades, I'm going to guess there are a lot of people at church who don't know it.

So I'm going to teach it, both at church and youth group. The words are great, focusing on the completed work of Jesus Christ, justifying, sanctifying, pardoning, and glorifying.

I don't know what the original melody was; apparently someone wrote a new tune in recent years, and that's what I'll be using when I teach it. For anyone who doesn't know it, here are the words. I learned this at Camp Good News, where they sang it at teen camp, and it was remarkably popular with the teens, who wanted to sing it pretty much every chapel service.

Complete In Thee
Complete in Thee! no work of mine
May take, dear Lord, the place of Thine;
Thy blood hath pardon bought for me,
And I am now complete in Thee.

Refrain:
Yea, justified! O blessed thought!
And sanctified! Salvation wrought!
Thy blood hath pardon bought for me,
And glorified, I too, shall be!

Complete in Thee! no more shall sin,
Thy grace hath conquered, reign within;
Thy voice shall bid the tempter flee,
And I shall stand complete in Thee.

Complete in Thee— each want supplied,
And no good thing to me denied;
Since Thou my portion, Lord, wilt be,
I ask no more, complete in Thee.

Dear Saviour! when before Thy bar
All tribes and tongues assembled are,
Among Thy chosen will I be,
At Thy right hand, complete in Thee.

I loved the song as well. Mr. Wolfe had a great understanding of doctrine. Are you going to write your own tune for it? Or use the one from camp?

Doug Replied: I'm using the one from camp. No sense in writing a new one, since some of our teens will go to CGN, and then end up with two tunes they have to learn!

I did make a couple modifications to the words, just to make it easier to understand. Nothing that changes the meaning, though!
