Our Great Savior - Altered Version

Our Great Savior (by J. William Chapman and Rowland H. Prichard) has always been one of my favorite hymns. I remember as a child that this was one of the ones I was always glad when we sang it in church. Maybe it was the words, maybe it was that oh-so-singable Hyfrydol melody.

I was playing around with this hymn a few months ago, and made a few...modifications. The text of the hymn, with my alterations (primarily in the chorus) is shown here:

Our Great Savior (altered version)

Jesus! What a friend for sinners!
Jesus, Lover of my soul;
Friends may fail me foes assail me,
He, my Savior, makes me whole.

Hallelujah! What a Savior!
Hallelujah! What a Friend!
Saving, helping, keeping, He's forever loving
He is always with me to the end.

Jesus! What a strength in weakness!
Let me hide myself in Him;
Tempted, tried, and sometimes failing,
He, my Strength, my victory wins.

Jesus! What a help in sorrow!
While the billows o'er me roll,
Even when my heart is breaking,
He, my Comfort, helps my soul.

Jesus! What a Guide and Keeper!
While the tempest still is high,
Storms about me, night e'er-takes me,
He, my Pilot, hears my cry.

Jesus! I do now receive Him,
More than all in Him I find,
He has granted me forgiveness,
I am His, and He is mine.

And now, just to prove that I really do have a functional recording system again, here's the first two verses. I'm still learning how to work the system, and if you listen closely you'll hear a couple "popping" or "snapping" noises. Still, for something put together in just a few minutes, with a system I'm still learning, I think it came out pretty good.

Doug Replied: It's the name of the tune for "Our Great Savior". If you look at most hymnbooks, down at the bottom of the page it'll list the name of the tune for each hymn. Hyfrydol is a tune which is used for a few hymns, including "Our Great Savior" and "Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus".
