News From Cape Elizabeth

Well, here I am in Cape Elizabeth, and thought I'd just write a little bit about my weekend. I already posted about Batman Begins, but while it was an enjoyable movie, it certainly wasn't the highlight of the weekend.

Since I'm down here in Cape Elizabeth, I decided I would find somewhere to go to church that was closer than driving home to South Paris. I went to the church Trent Boyd pastors in West Buxton. I had seen Trent's wife Lori a couple weeks earlier at the Steve Green concert, and had warned her I might stop by to visit. She said "Trent will probably rope you into doing something for the service." So, I tossed my guitar in the car, just in case.

It was nice to visit Trent's church, because I know quite a few people from that church (mostly people who are involved in Child Evangelism Fellowship), so it was nice to visit with them. There was even a family visiting from Nate's church in SpruceHead, which was a nice surprise.

But I didn't get asked to do anything for the church service.

...until about 2 minutes before church started. So I ran out and got my guitar, and sang something. I sang my newest song. After church, Sheri told me (and she wasn't the first person to have told me this...) that I sound like "that monk guy". "You mean, John Michael Talbot?" "Yeah. That guy."

So Trent thinks I should join a monastary.

I had lunch with the Boyd family, which was really nice; I hadn't seen Trent in quite a while, so it was good to spend some time visiting with him. And I had to practice saying the kids' names so I could get them in the proper order...Zach said he would test me on it.

Well, in other news, I got an email from Camp Good News yesterday. It turns out they weren't able to find a Teen Pastor for camp next week, so they wanted to know if I would be willing to be both the children's pastor and the teen pastor.

So, next week I'm going to be very busy. Each day I'll be teaching the teens in the morning, then doing a children's message in the early evening, and another teen message immediately following that. I won't be teaching a puppetry class...I think that would be just a bit too much. And I guess that means I won't be able to hike Tumbledown Mountain with the sixth graders.

Oh well...I guess that's a small sacrifice to make.

What a wonderful post. It sounds as though you had a great Sunday. Even though you were approached last minute, which I am sure could not be avoided, you acquiesced and made your talent available.
I am sure that the congregation was blessed by your song about monks.

"On"daunted,
Preacher

Doug Replied: song about monks, huh?

you must have been too preoccupied with your sermon to actually listen to the song...that's just onconscionable
