Watering Our Souls - Take TwoI'm briefly home this morning, and decided to tackle my song "Watering Our Souls" some more. The tragedy of the day is that my home recording studio (specifically the computer that runs the sequencing software) is on its last legs, going through its last dying rattle. So I decided I'd better get a little more done on this before it dies altogether. The song is now complete (though rough) with chorus (which I posted earlier), two verses (one about the sun, and one about the stars) and the bridge (which is all about rain).I mentioned before that the song was partly based on Hosea 6:3, which talks about God coming to us like the spring rain, and being as certain as the dawn. The other passage it is based on is Jeremiah 31:35-36, in which God essentially says, "I am as faithful as the stars, and the only way you could get me to break my word is to break the path of the stars in space." Jeremiah 31:35-36 Thus says the LORD, Who gives the sun for light by day And the fixed order of the moon and the stars for light by night, Who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar; The LORD of hosts is His name: If this fixed order departs From before Me," declares the LORD, "Then the offspring of Israel also will cease From being a nation before Me forever." Isn't that beautiful? ![]() Anyway, here are the lyrics: Watering Our Souls In the morning when I see the sunrise on the eastern horizon And its rays are brightly shining on my face I will recall Your mercies that are new with the rising sun And I remember Your unfailing grace You are as certain as the sunrise You are as faithful as the stars And you will come to us like spring rain Watering our souls, watering our souls You have set in motion all the starry host in the vast expanse of night A piercing blaze of glory shining through And every star that keeps its path in space through the darkest night Recalls that every word you speak is true And when the raindrops Keep falling on the rooftops When darkness fills the day And skies have turned to gray I will recall your faithful mercy And I will always know It is by Your rain You cause all things to grow And, for anyone who cares to download an MP3 that's 3.6 MB, here's a link to it: Watering Our SoulsPosted On Jun 18, 2005 at 6:24 AM On Jun 18, 2005 Mr. T. wrote: You know, two weeks ago that passage from Jeremiah was a main part of my Sunday morning message. I am preaching through Hebrews, and am on the part that talks about the New Covenant, which is of course a quotation from just before this passage in Jeremiah. The common interpreation with regards to the New Covenant is that it is for the church. To make that work, however, requires us to say that the church is the "New" Israel, or the "Spiritual" Israel - in other words that Israel has been replaced by the church because of their rejection of Christ. However, after looking at the verses in Jeremiah, that you quoted above, I became convinced that Israel has a significant role yet to play. As such, it would seem that the New Covenant is not for the church, but for the house of Israel and the House of Jacob, as Jeremiah says. Just my radical thoughts here. . . Doug Replied: oh well, every family has to have one radical. And here I was thinking it was me. ![]() By the way, I've used those verses as part of a message I've done several times in the last year, and if you listen to my song "Lantern On The Way", you can hear a brief (and subtle) reference to those verse. Like stars in the night, let us do what is right...
