Website Visitor StatisticsIt's kind of fun in the morning to take a look at the previous days' website visitor statistics, and see what people have been looking at, and how they got to the site. Most people don't realize it, but most websites have what's called a "statistics server" - an application that watches what people do when they visit a website. Don't worry, though, there is no personally identifiable information which gets tracked, so the webmaster only gets general trends, rather than specific details of what any one person did on the site. This can be very helpful information for a webmaster; by studying the visitor statistics, I can learn which pages are most popular, where people were when they clicked a link to my site, and even what search terms they used in a search engine to get to my site. For example, yesterday someone arrived at this site by searching for "hitchhikers guide to the galaxy dolphin song", which led them to my movie review of Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy". And I've had two visitors who were looking for information on the charity "His Hands For Haiti". What's the most popular page on this site? (not counting the GLOG, which several friends and family visit regularly) Well, the default page is next, and then the "HUH" page after that. I guess people like random nonsense. ![]() Then I looked at my new AntiSpam Website. Not much traffic there yet, since the site has only been operational for a few days, but already I've had people looking for information about Phishing Scams find the website. I'm glad, because the worst part of spam is the scams, and it's important for people to learn about them. I'm glad the site has already been helpful to some people in finding specific information about the scams people run through email. Well...I guess that's all for now. The sun is streaming in through the window, and I'm going to go out for a walk! Posted On May 10, 2005 at 6:25 AM
