New Educational ResourcesYes, another problem solving math game at The Problem Site. This game is called "Side By Side". You are given seven numbers in a row, and you have to rearrange them so no two "side by side" numbers add up to another number in the row. Some of these are easy, some take a little more work. There are about 400 puzzles in all, and the site randomly picks a puzzle for you whenever you visit the page.Puzzle Link: Side By Side Addition - an Online Math Game I posted this to the site November 1, 2005 at about 10:00 PM, and I haven't linked it in yet, so no one visiting the site can see it, unless they get there from here. If you try it out, I'd love to have feedback on whether it works correctly in your web browser, whether the game makes sense, etc. And, in case anyone cares (although I highly doubt this will interest many of my "regular" readers), I added another entire section to The Problem Site, called Beginner Programming Tips And Tricks. This is a place where students studying computer programming can come for some tips about writing more efficient and more readable code. Each page has a section at the end called "Other Scenarios" in which the student is asked to put to use what they have learned in a slightly different situation. There is also a page with suggestions for computer programming teachers, explaining how they could use the site as a supplemental resource for their programming class. Finally, there is a Recommended Puzzle And Problem Solving Resources section, which gives recommendations on software, books, and games, with Amazon.com links to purchase them. I just added the Educational Resource Pick Of The Month page, which I plan to update once per month. If anyone has resources they would like to recommend for this page, please let me know! It has been interesting to watch the usage statistics on The Problem Site since I redesigned the page layout. People are staying on the site for a significantly longer time, which is due in part (I think) to the fact that it's much easier to navigate. For example, if you are in the Codes And Secret Messages section of the site, it's incredibly easy to jump from there to any other game, problem page, or reference page on the site. So people are no longer coming and playing just one game, then leaving. Okay, I guess that's enough rambling about The Problem Site now. It's time for me to go back to work on the His Hands For Haiti website! Posted On Nov 2, 2005 at 5:09 AM
