Articles For EducatorsThe Articles For Educators site redesign is finished. More or less. I'm sure I'll be tweaking things from time to time as I study my visitor traffic. If you'd like to check it out, just follow the link above, or click one of these: Educational Resources At Articles For Educators Finding Founder's Hall - a Prince Edward Island field trip idea (the very first article posted on the new version of the site.) Homeschool Directory (just added to the site, but I'm expecting to see some articles rolling in soon...) At the moment I feel like Whistler in the movie Sneakers. If you've never seen the movie, Whistler is a blind man who ends up having to drive a truck in order to save his friends. So when I say I feel like Whistler, what I mean is, I feel like I'm "driving blind". Last night, about the time I posted the new version of the AFE site, my web stats page stopped updating (what are the odds? ), and now they're gone altogether. Which means I can't see any visitors, what they're doing on the site, how long they're staying, and whether they're getting any errors while they're there. ![]() Well, Whistler surived, and I guess I will too. ![]() <-- Whistler, with his cool shades. ![]() On a different subject, I've added a new word game to The Problem Site. My Secret Word - Guess the Computer's Word The computer has selected a word, and you have to figure out what it is. This one is similar to MasterMind, only involving letters instead of colors. You can choose your difficulty level by selecting shorter or longer words. If you choose longer words, at first you'll think it's easy, because the words have more letters, so it seems like no matter what you guess, you've got the right letter. But then comes the challenge of putting them in the right order, which is harder for a ten letter word than for a five letter word! One of my goals for The Problem Site is to have as many word games as I have math games. Right now I have six math games and only four word games. So if you have any bright ideas for word games I could add to the site, send me a note! I tried coming up with something to do with anagrams, but came up empty. Well, that's all for now...this morning I'm heading out to do some yard work for some of our elderly folk at the church. Hopefully I'll have some teens show up to help me! ![]() Posted On Nov 19, 2005 at 6:49 AM On Nov 19, 2005 Trent wrote: In Canada we had a game show called DEFINITION It was a variation on hangman. One team would "give" a letter that they thought was not part of the solution to the other team. Then they would choose a letter they thought was in the solution. If they guessed correctly, they could solve or choose again. Each time giving one away and choosing one. This would probably need to be a two player game. The other great word game was called "Bumper Stumpers". You would be given license plates to guess. For example they would show you HPPYPSTR or FTHROSVN And you would have to guess what it was. If you were correct then you would continue. I don't know if there would be any kind of a database that you could draw from for this game. But it was always fun to play. Lastly, we have a game called swoogle. It is a variation of Scrabble. The board is in the form of a crossword puzzle. Then you roll the dice to see how many letters you get to put down. The words all come out of your own head. This one might be difficult to program, but you would be a better judge than I of that. If you would any further information, You know where I will be this Tuesday morning. ps You have great confidence if you see anything "rolling in" Doug Replied: Yes, I will look forward to "further information" ![]() On Nov 19, 2005 Trent wrote: Oh yeah, and I like the secret word game too. Doug Replied: THANKS! ![]() On Nov 19, 2005 Trent wrote: Did you guess my bumper stumpers? Did you get any yard work done? Did any teens show up? Is the canoe wood or aluminum? Doug Replied: Umm...happy star is the only idea I had on the bumper stumpers. Yes, we got some yard work done at the church, and for two of our elderly folk. We had two leaders and four teens show up, which is a good size group to work without getting in each other's way. The canoe is dried bubblegum. Works well until you put it in the water and the gum starts to soften.
