Recording Studio UpgradeI recently was the recipient of a very generous gift, which has prompted me to do something I've been wanting to do for several months now. I'm upgrading my recording studio.I spent a good part of last evening online researching what I want, and making sure it'll do what I need. It turns out that I'm going to be able to get much more than I expected, for the amount of money I intended to spend. So let me show you what I'm getting... ![]() This is a new computer (to replace the defunct one which is doing nothng but taking up space in my office). This is a Pentium 4 2.8Ghz, with 256MB RAM and an 80GB hard drive. And a 19" flat panel display. Nothing special for software on it. After all, it doesn't really need much, except this, which is being ordered separately... ![]() This is the latest generation of the Cakewalk sequencing software. Sonar has an unbelievable feature list. (I'm not going for the absolute highest version...there's also Sonar Producer, which has a few features this one doesn't have, but I think it's going to take me a long time to learn all the features I've got with this one!) And then there's this little beast... ![]() Believe it or not, that's a sound card for my computer. I know, it doesn't look like a sound card, and technically, it's referred to as a PCI Audio Interface. It's a pretty sweet system; you can plug guitars, synthesizers, microphones, etc. directly into the interface box. It converts to digital and feeds right into the computer. This is the third generation of the sound card I wanted seven years ago when I put together the existing system. But at the time it was way more money than I wanted to spend. This one has more features than the old one, but costs half as much. So, in all, I'm spending about as much money as I expected to, but getting way more than I thought I would for that money. Of course, all three products are shipping from different places, so this system will be trickling in piecemeal, and I won't be able to do much with it until it all arrives... In the meantime...thank you very much to the very generous people who made this possible! ![]() On a completely different subject, I received a very nice email from Jamie, of His Hands For Haiti... Just wanted to let you know that I am receiving e-mails on a fairly regular basis now from people I've never heard of. The only way I know of that they could be contacting us is through the web site. Some have even mentioned that they contacted us after viewing the web site and some have hit that link "I would like to sponsor this child" so that the e-mail comes in with the child's name on it. Isn't it great when things work just they way you want them to and that you can actually see some results?! I'm very happy about that...it's nice to know that my work paid off for them! ![]() Posted On Nov 30, 2005 at 5:23 AM
