Wakey, Wakey, Bobby!

Thursday afternoon Brian called me and said, "Some of the families in our church are hiking Angel Falls on Saturday...want to come with us?" Well, I'd never been to Angel Falls, which is the tallest waterfall in Maine. So, after some deliberation, I decided I'd drive up to Kingfield Friday night (after youth group) and join them.

Didn't work out quite that way.

Friday night I was at youth group doing the Hurricane Katrina/Brazil Missions "scavenger hunt" (an activity which went very well, despite the small turnout of teens; we had 15 different homes we visited collecting supplies for Katrina victims and Brazilian missions) and Katie said something about "getting up early Saturday morning to go hiking." So I asked, "Where are you hiking?"

Well, you could have bowled me right over when she said, "Angel Falls!" So after several rounds of "You're kidding, right?" and "You're really hiking Angel Falls?" We decided that we needed to include Katie and her fiance Bobby in the hiking group. Then, Katie had the bright idea that I should follow her home to Byron (she and her family live just down the road from Angel Falls), and spend the night at her their house, which would give the added benefit of getting to spend a little time with Bobby as well. (For those who don't know, Katie and Bobby are both friends from Camp Berea)

So after youth group we drove to Byron. Bobby was fast asleep when we arrived, so I had the rather amusing job of bouncing on the edge of his bed and shouting "Wakey Wakey!" until he woke up, completely baffled to find me there. It did take him a few minutes to fully wake up; I think he found it a bit disturbing to find my ugly mug grinning down at him! Boy, am I awful or WHAT?

Anyway, we had a grand time hiking, and I have (as always) posted a report of my hike at Amateur-Hikers.com. Here's the report: Angel Falls Hiking Trip Report.

It was a lot of fun, and gave me plenty of time to visit with Katie and Bobby, and family and friends up in Kingfield.

On a completely different note, it is certainly interesting to see how people make use of their blogs. If you haven't yet visited them, you may want to check out Brian's Blog and Trent's Blog. Brian clearly intends to use his blog as a place to consider and write up theological perspectives; not really surprising, considering his interest in Scripture and his logical (Spock-like ) mind. Trent's first entry didn't surprise me too much either; knowing that Trent is a real history buff, it wasn't unexpected that he would write about something that happened in 1642 and its follow-up today.

Then there's me, who is such a completely random person that I write up everything from technical support issues to huge words like antidisestablishmentarianism to camping trips to...well...just about everything in between.

I hope you enjoy all these exciting new blogs at Doug's Online Playground!
