Christian Education ConferenceWell, Trent has updated his blog more than me in the last week, and there's something desperately wrong with that. ![]() Anyway, I've been pretty busy this week, between switching Articles For Educators to a new server, and then helping to do the same thing to our church website, finishing up preparations to teach my seminars at the Christian Education conference on Saturday, and getting my ministry display & newsletter ready. I'm going to be teaching two seminars tomorrow - one is on training teens to minister (specifically talking about puppets and drama, although I'm going to talk about training teens to minister in "behind the scenes" ways as well). The other is on "Spanning The Ages" - how to teach a lesson that works well for all age groups. I've posted the main content of that seminar here: Christian Education Seminar. Tonight we've got our "Sixth Grade Welcome Party" - the very first event that the sixth graders are invited to attend. Starting tonight, the sixth graders get to attend any and all youth group events. We're overlapping with AWANA by a week this year, in order to help the sixth graders get transitioned into youth group. We'll see how that goes. I've been asked to do a presentation of ventriloquism/music/preaching at a campground out on the coast this summer. They want me to do a program which is between one and two hours. This is much more than I typically do with my puppets, so I've had to start working on something different. What I've settled on is, I'm going to start out with ventriloquism (as I typically do anyway), and then move into more of a concert, with a lot of music. As I've worked on that, I've ended up with a sequence of songs and narratives that tell the life of Christ - it will be an interesting way of teaching the Gospel. So, I'm going to offer this concert to churches who want me to come do something a little more serious than the typical ventriloquism bit. Here's my song list: The Gospel In SongBirth1. Rainy Christmas (Douglas Twitchell) 2. Thou Wayfaring Jesus (van Dyke/Twitchell) Life 3. Madman From Galilee (Douglas Twitchell) 4. Rocks And Stones (Watts/Twitchell) Death & Resurrection 5. When I Survey (Watts/Twitchell) 6. Alas, And Did my Savior Bleed (Watts/Twitchell) 7. Morning Breaks (Collyer/Twitchell) Conclusion 8. Tourist In Jerusalem (Douglas Twitchell) 9. O Jesus King Most Wonderful (Clairvaux/Twitchell) 10. Our Great Savior (Chapman/Twitchell) You'll notice that I get to use some of my Isaac Watts "remakes" - those are some of my favorites! ![]() Posted On Apr 28, 2006 at 4:13 AM On Apr 28, 2006 Trent wrote: I think Isaac would be pleased. Doug Replied: well I dunno...he might not like what I've done with all his poems. Let's see if I can list all the Watts songs I've redone... When I Survey Alas And Did My Savior Bleed There Is A Land Of Pure Delight There Is A Stream Joy To The World Hosanna To The Royal Son (Rocks And Stones) Come We That Love The Lord O God Our Help In Ages Past Now To The King Of Heaven Hmm...that's all I can think of right now...seems like there's more. I could actually do an entire concert of Watts songs! ![]() On Apr 28, 2006 Trent wrote: Perhaps you could ask him to join and do the tenor part. Doug Replied: what an excellent idea! ![]()
