Ice Age 2, State Math Meet, ScrabbleFriday night I took Daniel to see Ice Age 2 - The Meltdown. Very funny movie. When I first saw previews for the first Ice Age movie, with the little squirrel chasing after the acorn, I thought to myself, "It would be really cool if they did a movie in which this squirrel keeps showing up every few minutes, chasing the acorn, but really has not much of anything to do with the plotline." And, it turned out, I was right. I really enjoyed the first Ice Age movie, but was very skeptical about the second movie...after all, sequels are never better than the original, and hardly ever even close to as-good-as the original. Turns out, Ice Age 2 was at least as good as, if not better than the first one. I was laughing outloud at some parts, and Sid the Sloth had some very funny lines. There were a few moments of the movie that stretched the limits of credulity (which is saying something, when the movie involves talking animals to begin with but even those moments they made very funny. (The vultures singing "Food Glorious Food", Sid being taking captive by the mini-sloths, and the squirrel going to acorn heaven)Anyway, definitely good for some laughs! Tomorrow I'm heading up to Orono for a couple days, for the Maine State Math Meet. I'll be spending the night with Al & Margaret (the pastor and his wife at Orrington). It'll be really nice to see them, I haven't seen them for quite awhile. If you haven't heard, I'm building yet another game for Quote Puzzler - It's a game similar to (but not exactly like) Scrabble. It's not yet open to the public, but should be soon. Last night I downloaded the QP database and was running some tests when I noticed that: A. We were going to have a tie score this week. B. The code wasn't written to handle ties. So, I spent last evening recoding that section of the site, so it would show both winners this morning. *Phew!* Got it done! Well, today we've got our last practice for our Easter Cantata - I hope we're going to be ready for next Sunday! ![]() Posted On Apr 9, 2006 at 10:41 AM On Apr 12, 2006 Laura wrote: Can you believe I'm an English major and have never played scrabble? Yeah, I really should learn at some point so I can try out that game... We have some big Ice Age fans in this house, so I'm really looking forward to the sequel too :-) Oh, and I should probably tell you that I beat your nephew at ping-pong last weekend, teeheehee. Well, we weren't keeping score, but he eventually gave up, so I considered it a victory anyway. ;-) Doug Replied: well, Josh was never very good at ping-pong anyway. ![]() On Apr 13, 2006 Beth wrote: You've never played Scrabble Laura! That is crazy. Just crazy. That's like majoring in economics and never playing Monopoly (jk! )I've never seen Ice Age, but it's actually a well liked movie among my peers. It's good to know the second movie is good as well. Ohhh math meets. How I miss them.... Doug Replied: You mean Monotony, right? (I don't like Monopoly very much!)I saw your math team coach Tuesday, and she said what a nice girl you are. On a completely different subject... I am, right now, looking at some pictures of Beth with her hair down. Now that's something I'd never seen before! ![]() On Apr 14, 2006 Beth wrote: Oh man, I LOVED monopoly growing up. Then in economics we played again, and I tricked one kid into being my partner-I wouldn't pay if I landed on his property, and then we would split the profits that he made from other people. He thought it was such a cool idea that he didn't realize he was losing profit while I was gaining it hahaha...my classmates didn't like us that day.Mrs. Ralph was the best math teacher I ever had. She was hard but you learned. And yes...my hair was down.... ![]() Doug Replied: I wouldn't pay if I landed on his property, and then we would split the profits that he made from other people. You are one very devious individual. Remind me never to go into business with you. ![]()
