Teaching From The PsalmsI thought I'd put a post up listing what I'm currently planning to teach this summer at camps and Vacation Bible Schools. I'm planning to do something a little different this year, and I'm partly wondering if I'm crazy to do this with groups of children...I'm planning to teach from the book of Psalms. Which is kind of funny, because Pastor Kevin has been teaching from Psalms at church on Sunday nights. But so far, the Psalms I'm planning to teach from and the Psalms he's been teaching from haven't really overlapped too much...so I guess I'll have to prepare my own notes. ![]() It's tough to figure out how to put together a series of messages for camps and VBS, because they are all a different length. When I do junior camp at CGN, I have six sessions. When I do teen camp there I have eleven. When I do VBS I have five sessions, and when I do Fairhaven teen camp I only have four. So, I'm going to list all the psalms that I'm preparing lessons on. The ones with a star next to them are the ones I'm doing for Vacation Bible Schools. (Jonathan, that's FYI, since you mentioned you wouldn't mind knowing in advance what "theme" I might have) Psalm 1* Sin and righteousness Psalm 20 Our dependence on God Psalm 22* Jesus, the Forsaken Savior Psalm 24 Preparing For The King Psalm 29 Eternal, Mighty God, who gives strength and peace Psalm 42 Discouragement, Despair, Mistreatment, and Hope Psalm 95* Hearing the voice of Our Shepherd Psalm 125* Trusting God and choosing the right path Psalm 126 Persevering in troubled times Psalm 127 Building A House - what really matters in life Psalm 133* The blessing of unity and brotherhood Along with this, I'm also planning to teach my Psalm 125 song at all the camps/churches I go to. Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion Which cannot be shaken but endures forever As the mountains surround Jerusalem So the Lord surrounds His people now and evermore Do good, oh Lord (do good, oh Lord) To those who are good (to those who are good) To those who are upright in heart Do good, oh Lord (do good, oh Lord) To those who are good (to those who are good) To those who are upright in heart Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion Which cannot be shaken but endures forever As the mountains surround Jerusalem So the Lord surrounds His people now and evermore But those who turn (but those who turn) To crooked paths (to crooked paths) The Lord will lead them away But those who turn (but those who turn) To crooked paths (to crooked paths) The Lord will lead them away Posted On Apr 4, 2006 at 4:43 AM On Apr 6, 2006 Laura wrote: That sounds like a great idea - I hope some of my siblings will end up at Camp Good News the same week that you are, so they can tell me how it goes :-) Doug Replied: Well, I hope it's a good idea. The thing that makes me a little nervous about it is, I tend to be a "storyteller", and some of the Psalms you can't really approach that way.
