Random Facts and SillinessA variety of random facts in the life of Doug...1. Several years ago I wrote the following as part of a "devotional" on Psalm 126: Life here on this earth, amidst the anguish and struggle against evil, is not lived from joy to joy, or from pain to pain; it is a side by side journey of grief and joy, sorrow and laughter. A bitter-sweet road from birth to grave. But the promise of the psalmist keeps us from giving up. Interestingly, a couple weeks ago this quote showed up in a featured article at catholic.org. And yes, they did credit to "Author Douglas Twitchell". 2. The same quote shows up on CNN, as part of a 9-11 tribute. However, someone modified the quote slightly and didn't credit me. Even so, I think getting mis-quoted on CNN is still a step up from my other recent discovery, that there are a couple wiki-pedia articles that quote me and list my sites as cross-references. ![]() 3. Got word back today that my cholesterol level has gone from 220 to 197 in the last year, and the "bad" cholesterol has gone from 165 to 138. My doctor was pleased. I was too. And yes, that was without medication. I wanted to get the cholesterol down just through "good clean living", and it worked. 4. Winter Weekend is this weekend. Our speaker is Nate Churchill, and I'm really looking forward to it. We currently have 37 teens going, and 9 adults. Nate and Kate are doing the cooking (again!), Ben, Tiff, and Glen are leading the games, and I'm doing NOTHING! Well, not exactly true, but I really don't have a lot to do on this trip; it's nice to have responsible leaders who get things done, so I'm just there to say "How's it going? Need anything?" And, of course, to be - if necessary - the "bad guy". But that's hardly ever necessary. 5. Looking for something to waste your time? Check out this silly little game: Avoider The object is to keep the mouse pointer away from the little guy. As you get better at it, he starts introducing all kinds of new tricks to beat you. Cute. Oh...and in case anyone cares, the site that this game is on belongs to the Begin's son. He's apparently really into computers. (But he didn't program this game...he got it from somewhere else!) 6. Well, I've sent a draft of my CD off to Jonathan for a second set of ears to listen to. So, that's coming along. I'm very pleased with the clarity that I can get on my vocals, with my new microphone. 7. My blog is going to become a little less active...there are two types of blog entries that I'm going to stop posting here. First, I'm going to start posting my movie reviews at my Also Known As site. Second, I'm going to be starting a new website pretty soon, which will eventually replace my "ministry" website, and that is where I'll post my Bible Thoughts. (I've already started building that site, but don't have the domain yet...I'm still waiting to decide whether I'm going to get it hosted through RH or GD) When that site is online, I'll let everyone know! ![]() 8. I'm definitely recovering from my cold, which is a big relief; this one hung on for over a week. I think I'll be functioning at 100% by the time we head for camp this weekend. 9. Something I found on the internet, to finish off with... Why Chuck Norris Is My Hero... When the boogey man goes to sleep every night he checks his closet for Chuck Norris. Dinosaurs looked at Chuck Norris the wrong way. Once. Chuck Norris is currently suing NBC, claiming that Law & Order are trademark names of his left and right leg. If at first you don't succeed--you're obviously not Chuck Norris. Chuck Norris sleeps with a night light. Not because he is afraid of the dark. but because the dark is afraid of him. Chuck Norris died ten years ago, but the Grim Reaper can't get up the courage to tell him. Superman owns a pair of Chuck Norris pajamas. Posted On Feb 1, 2006 at 8:04 PM
