Teen Winter Retreat Report

Well, Winter Weekend (our teen retreat for the youth group at SPBC) went really well. Our guest speaker taught on purity, and did a good job getting the message across. The teens had a really fun time, and there were only a few minor injuries (a couple snowballs in the eye, a banged jaw, etc).

We did have one boy who got overly tired, and had eaten a few too many sweets (hyper food) and had a rather...disasterous...incident at about 3:30 AM. One boy's entire luggage was the unfortunate recipient of the...disaster.

So the next morning I had the delightful job of sorting disaster-laden luggage into two different triple-bagged containers.

The first night, after everyone arrived (the last campers arrived just a little before midnight! ) I did a short "rules" session, and also gave them a "Top Ten List". Not all of this will be funny...some of it you had to be there previous years in order to get the jokes.

Top Ten Ways You Can Tell You're Camping With SPBC Youth Group

10. Every time you complain about being homesick, you get another hot pepper shoved down your throat.

9. Leaders are a bit confused about the proper uses of marshmallows.

8. You come home weighing at least 7 pounds more than when you left.

7. Every time someone flushes the toilet, the water level in the lake rises by a quarter of an inch.

6. That annoying little seventh grader who keeps biting everyone turns out to be a giant rat who got lost in the gymnasium.

5. Everyone cheers and breathes a big sigh of relief when they find out we've got a "guest speaker".

4. Letters sent home from camp are signed "Prisoner #325"

3. Leaders are a bit confused about the proper uses of Jello.

2. The camp is on lake Passagassawakeag, which is an Indian name that translates to "Land of the Giant Fleas"

1. Camp always happens on the weekend, because that way the leaders won't miss an episode of "Lost"

Well, that's the news from Lake Passagasawakeag. In other news, I've just started up another website. As I mentioned before, I'm no longer going to be posting sermon illustrations here - they're all going to go here: Biblical Illuminations. There's still a lot of work that needs to be done, but at least you can see what it's going to look like.
