Puzzle Book - Word Search PuzzlesIf you missed yesterday's entry in my blog, this one won't make much sense, so you might want to check that one first. Previous Entry: New Word GameI've been having fun with these puzzles, which I think are much more fun than a "regular" word search. With a normal word search, once you get down to just a couple words left, it gets quite tedious, trying to scan through the entire grid until you find those last missing words. But with this puzzle, you know exactly where the word is (or, at least, you know exactly where one of the letters is), so there's never that tedious scanning process. The thought process is completely different, since you don't know what the word is you're looking for, so being able to recognize combinations of letters that "make sense" together is an important skill. Especially when the words are backwards! So, here's what's next...I'm putting together a puzzle book containing larger versions of these puzzles. I'm planning on publishing it through Lulu.com (the same publishing company I'm planning to use for Jeorge's Favorites). Here's a sample puzzle: Sample Word Search Puzzle. One thing I've noticed is that (of course!) the words which are hidden forward or straight down tend to jump right out at you, so I've tried "skewing" the puzzles a little...more diagonals, and more backwards, and more upward. So, I'm looking for feedback in a couple areas. 1. I'm trying to figure out if there's a better name to call these puzzles. On The Problem Site I call them "Related Word Search" puzzles (a word search containing related words), but I'm trying to think of a more creative name. Any ideas? 2. Once I finish putting together my book (right now I have about 60 puzzles like the sample above, and I'm hoping to have a couple hundred!) I'll be looking for some people who want to look through it, try some of the puzzles, and give me feedback. I'll have it available as a Microsoft Word document I can email out. If you're one of my "regular" visitors, and you are interested in getting an "advance" copy to preview, just send me an email and let me know! And, actually, now that I think about it...if you want a copy containing as many puzzles as I've put together so far, I can send that out in the next couple days. ![]() Posted On Feb 21, 2006 at 8:04 AM
