VBS, Camp, ConcertsWell, Brian said he was expecting to see a blog entry when I got home from camp. So, this is for you, Brian.![]() First, camp was very good, although a bit challenging at times. The campers were not the most attentive I'd ever seen; the first day or two was challenging. And one day, the moment I put the puppet away, about five boys got up to "go to the bathroom". ![]() But, by the middle of the week, they were being much more attentive in chapel. One counselor, who was counseling for the very first time, had a very difficult cabin. They actually had to put three counselors in a cabin with five kids. But, everyone survived. I enjoy going the week of July 4th, even though it means I miss seeing any fireworks displays (I haven't seen a fireworks display in quite a long while, because of camp). The week of July 4th, there are always volunteer staff that I've gotten to know over the years...people from Spruce Head (although not Nate this time), people from Buxton (although not Trent), and people from up north. If I went a different week, I wouldn't get to see them. I do enjoy working with the children's camp, but I kept wanting to head over to the teen side of camp, because I knew some of the campers over there. I'm looking forward to going back next week as the teen pastor. Last night was my first "performance" of my new concert. It went alright, I guess. I wasn't as relaxed as I had hoped to be, but I also wasn't as nervous as I expected to be. I think I rushed some things, but overall it was alright. We added one thing into the concert at the last minute; I decided to add my rendition of "Alas And Did My Savior Bleed". I taught David the harmony part the night before the concert, and he added in a recorder part, which we didn't get to practice together until about an hour before the concert started! And now I'm in Cape Elizabeth, and VBS starts here tonight. I'm doing different lessons here than everywhere else, because the Cape VBS is expected to have a whole lot of very very young children. Tonight I'm going to talk about Jesus as a child, in Jerusalem. I guess one good thing about teens is that they have longer attention spans. Dorothy and Lisa both had a good time. I heard something about Jeorge saving the campers from a potato-chip-eating cockroach at one point ;-) As for Pirates... I'd agree that it was silly at times. Especially that part where Jack crashes through all those wooden bridges, lands on his back, and somehow doesn't end up paralyzed. Plus...way too much of a cliffhanger. A year seems too long to wait! Doug Replied: Oh, they liked the cockroach, did they? ![]() Pirates: the whole thing with the cannibals was just badly set up. Although it did have some funny moments!
