Oxford WalMart, Cars Movie

Hello. I'm with the Oxford WalMart personnel department. *** has listed you as a reference on his job application. May I ask you three quick questions?

Sure.

Would *** present a danger of violence toward other WalMart employees, or customers?

Ha ha! Absolutely not.

Do you have any reason to question his honesty and integrity?

None whatsoever

Do you know of anything that would make him unsuitable for the position for which he has applied?

Uh...What position has he applied for?

(long pause) I'm sorry, sir, I can't reveal that information.

I'm still trying to figure that one out.

Last night Ben and Glen and I went to see the new animated movie Cars. Very very funny. And now when I look at a car, I see every pair of headlights as eyes, every grille as a moustache...

There was something rather unique about this movie, that I really really liked...but it's a bit of a spoiler, so I'll tell you at the end of the blog entry, after the spoiler warning.

I have a habit of associating Bible verses with movies I see, and the verse I associate with this one is: The first shall be last, and the last first. The movie actually did an excellent job of portraying that principle.

If you go see it, be sure to stay through the credits, as there is some very funny stuff. Especially funny if you've seen various other animated movies like Toy Story, and Monsters Inc, because they do car spoofs of those. As funny as the movie was, I think I laughed as much during the credits as I did during the entire rest of the movie!

****SPOILER****
At the end, the main character (or is it car-acter?) loses "the big race". And in losing it, shows the truth of "the first shall be last, and last first". Because even though he doesn't win any prizes, the fact that he puts another before himself makes him the true hero of the story.

Makes for a lousy website though

Doug Replied: That's okay, I turned it into a link so it's much more "fitting" now.

Doug Replied: *nods*

Whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant. (Matthew 20:26)

It would be easy for us to think "Oh! I'll be a servant, so I can be great!" But servanthood is not something we take on for the sake of gain; servanthood is, in itself, true greatness. Because servanthood is part of the character and nature of Christ (see Phil 2:1-8)

Did you sneak in and hear my sermon this morning from Mark 10?

Doug Replied: HA! Nope! But I preached from Luke 9:46-56 this morning.

Fools think alike.

Doug Replied: yep!
