How Random Can I Get?How random can I get? Let's see how many subjects I can cover in one blog entry.![]() Wel, for starters, I just added a new section to The Problem Site. The new section is called Search It Out! The idea behind these pages is, teachers can have their students get practice doing research on the internet by doing the quizzes. This is similar to, but not exactly like, a WebQuest. Hmmm...here's a joke for you: Mike was in BIG trouble. He forgot his wedding anniversary. "Tomorrow," his wife angrily told him, "there had better be something in our driveway that goes from zero to 200 in two seconds flat!" The next morning, she looked outside and saw a small package in the driveway. She brought it inside, opened it .... and found a brand new bathroom scale. Funeral services for Mike have been set for Saturday. I'm enjoying getting emails occasionally about The Problem Site...one fellow was playing my Fractional Hi Lo Game, and he thought there was something wrong because he knew the computer's fraction was between 2/8 and 3/8, and he wasn't allowed to use a denominator greater than eight, so he could do 5/16. He had gotten into a mindset of halves, quarters, eighths, and sixteenths, so he had completely forgotten about fractions like 1/3. It's interesting to see how quickly and easily we can settle into a particular way of thinking, and then not be able to see outside of our thinking rut. And speaking of thinking outside the box, I just had two people finish solving The Treasue Hunt. So kudos to them! Last night at youth group we spent about a half an hour doing invitations for our upcoming luncheon that we are hosting for some of the folks in the church. I'm also hoping to put together some sort of program with teens singing, doing poetry readings, etc. So far I've got one volunteer...Daniel and I are going to sing a song together. Jessie is going to work with him on learning the signs that go with the song. But Daniel is excited about this...it was his idea, and he's asked about this the last two weeks, so I know he really wants to do it. ![]() Then Virginia was our guest speaker, telling the teens about CYIA. I'm hoping we'll have at least a couple teens go to that. And I passed around a sign up sheet for people who want to help with VBS this summer...we had 19 teens sign up, some for the VBS in Stow, some for the VBS in South Paris, and some for both. For anyone who read the story about the Basketball Game, the woman who was knocked down has a broken collarbone, but that is all. She has emphatically stated that she knows it was an accident, and she bears no ill will toward anyone. Oh...and it looks like I've scheduled a couple hiking trips with some/all of my brothers. In May we're planning to hike Bald Mt in Rangeley, and then in June, The Crockers (right next to Sugarloaf). Posted On Mar 9, 2006 at 7:49 AM
