This Is The Game That Never Ends

This is the game that never ends
It just goes on and on my friends
Some people started playing it not knowing what it was
And they'll continue playing it because...

Well, you get the idea. I'm beginning to think that's the case with my new Trio Match Game. Watching my site stats the last day and a half, I've seen people come on and play this game for more than two hours straight.

But...with the changes I made this afternoon, maybe it is possible to play it forever. I widened the "well", which makes it easier to create simultaneous trios. Take a look at this picture:

If you study this carefully, hopefully you'll realize that one piece (the very next piece I dropped, in fact) gave me five simultaneous trios, giving me 2000 extra points, and 20 extra tiles. Now, since I only used eighteen tiles in the game configuration above, that means when I dropped the next tile, I had more tiles than I had at the very beginning of the game!

And it made me wonder...could I keep going forever?

Well, I don't know. And I don't really want to find out. So I changed the bonus rules. Now you get (X - 1) * 4 bonus tiles for X simultaneous trios. Hopefully that will keep this from turning into the game that really does never end.

In case anyone is wondering, the game in which I came up with the configuration above, I was up to 11,800 points, with 21 tiles left...and I decided to quit the game, because I didn't think it would be fair to leave that on the high score list!

Doug Replied: Yeah, that's good to know. Thanks. If you get a chance, can you check it in your other mac browsers?

I just got a really nice comment from a site visitor:

Your new trio game is excellent! Lacking the time element of Tetris makes it accessible to the hesitant learner, and using multiple attributes puts EVERYBODY'S brain on overdrive. Super, super, super!

Now if you can clear the entire "well", you get five bonus tiles. So there's another way to extend your game.

It works fine on Firefox for Mac, and the arrows at the top are arrows, not the numbered ovals in Safari.

Doug Replied: merci beaucoup. When you say it's an "oval", it's the same rounded rectangle that is typically used for buttons, only it's much smaller...right?
