Links To The Problem SiteYesterday something rather unusual happened at The Problem Site - there was an extraordinary amount of traffic to The Treasure Hunt. There were approximately 400 new members on the site, all in one day. Yes, that's a lot. I was puzzled about why this was, so went looking for an explanation for the sudden traffic increase.I do have web stats, which tell me where visitors come from, but unfortunately those don't update "real time", so I had to wait until this morning to find out where the extra traffic was coming from. It turns out there is a "Community Weblog" - an online blogging/discussion site with PR-8 (8/10 web ranking, according to Google) that had a link to the hunt on its home page, and an ongoing discussion about the Treasure Hunt. These were some very determined people, and unlike what usually happens when the Treasure Hunt gets discussed in a forum, these guys weren't giving away answers and offering blatant hints. I think there were about 20 people of the 400 who actually completed the Treasure Hunt yesterday. But that wasn't what REALLY interested me. Because in the process of trying to figure out where the extra traffic was coming from, I discovered something else of interest. Microsoft Corp posts occasional "At Work" newsletters on their website, and the most recent newsletter has a section titled "Best Of The Web". Guess what site Microsoft features in their "Best Of The Web"? Yeah. The Problem Site's Daily Puzzles Here's what they say: Quote:

I spoke too soon on that...there were a few "smart" ones who figured it all out, and then the "whiners" kicked in, begging for hints, and the smart ones couldn't resist. ![]() On Feb 16, 2007 Beth wrote: Whoa! This is awesome! It's funny that they didn't tell you directly though. On Feb 16, 2007 Mr. T wrote: Quote:
