Amateur HikersSome of you may recall that a couple months ago I started doing a redesign of Amateur-Hikers.com, my website for submitting reports of hiking expeditions. (I started this site a couple years ago, as a way of getting useful information about mountains and hiking trails available to people free of charge)Well, I spent a fair amount of time working on those upgrades, and got it about 90% finished, before I had to leave it alone to work on other, more pressing projects. My goal had been to get the new version of the site posted before spring really "hit", since spring, summer, and fall are the times the site is most active. A few days ago, I realized "Hey, it's definitely springtime, and the new site is still only 90% finished!" I also realized that, with everything else I'm trying to get done this spring, I probably wasn't going to have time to do that final 10%. So what to do? I decided that at 90% finished, the new version of the site is still at least 100% better than the old one, so even without all the features installed yet, it was better to have the new version online for this hiking season. So, take a look: Amateur-Hikers.com, with a bundle of new features! Some of the things that aren't finished yet? The pictures from the old hike reports aren't moved over to the new site, and the feature to upload new pictures isn't done. Also, the feature to create your own "feed" for hike reports in your area of the world is not complete. There are several features which make the new site much nicer than the old one...
Obviously, that's a lot of new features! Someone from Arizona submitted a report to the new site, this is the first new report on the new version of the site: Superstition Mountains/Castle Dome Go ahead and poke around, let me know what you think of the new site! And if you know something about a particular mountain, and want to write a brief description of it (where it's located, how tall it is, interesting information/trivia about the mountain) you can click the "write a description" link, and write a short summary.
