Welcome To The MessageBox Graveyard!

Welcome to the MessageBox Graveyard. On these pages you will find message boxes that are entirely ficticious. Any resemblance to any real message boxes, either living or dead, is coincidental.

We hope that you never see message boxes like these in real life, but if you do, our recommendation is to run.

Very fast.

What Is The MessageBox Graveyard?

Good question! Do you know what a messagebox is? When you're operating a computer program (your word processor, your tax software, your drawing program, database, spreadsheet, etc.) and the program needs to tell you something, it'll pop up one of those little windows that has an exclamation mark on it, or a big red x, or maybe a question mark. And you have to choose "Yes" or "No", or maybe "Cancel" or "Retry". You get the idea. That is a messagebox.

So what is the MessageBox Graveyard? Well, the MessageBox Graveyard is a place for messageboxes that, for one reason or another, never made it into a computer program. They died before their time. *sobs*

For example, every computer programmer in the entire world has had - at some time - a strong urge to add a messagebox to his program that pops up on the first day of April, and says:

Hard drive wipe!

Followed immediately by a second messagebox which says:

April Fools!

The urge to pull stunts like this is almost overwhelming. Almost. Most of us resist that urge. Instead, we take messageboxes like these and lay them - sadly - to rest in the MessageBox Graveyard.

Here you will find a selection of messageboxes which tragically bit the dust before their time, and were never actually released in any software application. They range from messages you might see in everyday real life situations (like doing your taxes, or controlling the reaction at a nuclear power plant), or in completely unlikely situations (like being stranded on a deserted island with Jack Shephard, John Locke, and all the rest of the crew from Lost, or piloting the Starship Enterprise around the galaxy with Captain Kirk, Spock and all those other Star Fleet guys).

I hope you enjoy this little collection.

Oh, one more thing. If you're looking for odd messageboxes that actually did make it into software applications (and therefore are not in this collection!), may I recommend that you visit the following website: Pop-Up Potpourri at Worse Than Failure. They aren't all messageboxes, but you'll find plenty to make you chuckle!
