142857 - Mathematical Tricks and Stunts

Doug has an article posted at Articles For Educators about the number 142857 (Here's the article link: My Pet Number - 142857.) He thought it would be fun to create a simple calculator that shows some of the oddities of 142857. So here's how this works. You just enter a number in the textbox below, and my site will tell you what stunt 142857 does when you multiply it by that number!

Please enter a positive integer in the space below.

In case you're interested, 142857 is not the only number that does such interesting stunts and tricks. It's not as much of an oddity as you might think. 142857 is the repeating decimal portion of one seventh (1/7 = .142857142857...).

Are there other fractions whose repeating decimal behaves the same way? You bet there are! But I'm not going to tell you what they are. You'll just have to find them for yourself.
