Hooray! Doug is home!

Yay! Doug is finally home! After his surgery last week he spent a couple days recuperating at his parents' house, and then his parents went away on a vacation, and he stayed there to take care of the house and the dog and his grandmother.

But now he's back home, and I'm excited because now I don't need to eat any more of JD's cooking! (and on the subject of cooking, you should check out Jackson's Cake Recipe!)

Doug went shopping yesterday, and he said it was a lot of fun, because he didn't have to spend 20% more for stuff that didn't have fat in it!

And right now there's a beef stew cooking, which is so much nicer than when Doug kept cooking my cousins the chickens all the time!

Disaster In The Kitchen

Oooh...J.D. is gonna be in so much trouble! Yesterday he found out that Doug is going in the hospital for gallbladder surgery.

Of course, we're all concerned for Doug, but you know what J.D. is concerned about? He's afraid there won't be anything to eat while Doug's away. So last night after Doug went to bed, J.D. went in the kitchen to see if he could figure out how to cook.

"Bien sur," he said, "all zee great chefs in the world are French, so why not mee?"

Uncle Jim tried to talk him out of it.

"Now look here, you young whipper-snapper," he said, "you don't know the first thing about cooking. Besides, it's past your bedtime!"

Uncle Jim always says it's past our bedtime.

Anyway, J.D. didn't listen, and he found an old recipe for cake and tried to bake it.

If only he'd shown us the recipe first we could have told him it was a big mistake!...

It was Jackson's old recipe for Tuna Fish Cake, for which that crazy capuchin monkey once earned a "dishonorable mention" in a cake baking contest.

I'm amazed we're not all in the hospital.

Anyway, if anyone wants the ingredients, maybe I'll post the recipe another day...
