Transformed Into His ImageRomans 8:29For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.(NKJV) No, I am not going to speak regarding Calvinism. There are times when we allow ourselves to be read Scripture according to someone else's preferred emphasis. What has struck me recently is the phrase "...to be conformed to the image of His Son..." Comparing that with 2 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.(NKJV) Last evening I asked the group at prayer meeting a question along these lines "What does that look like on a daily basis?" I received a great compare scripture with scripture answer. In Colossians 3 you have Paul's teaching regarding Put on, Put off. He lists there the characteristics that we must put off as well as the ones that we put on. If you want a great scriptural filter to see how the process of transformation is proceeding in your life, I recommend a slow, thoughtful read. Allow me to conclude with these verses: Colossians 3:9,10 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him (NKJV) 2 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. (NKJV) Running a routine diagnostic on your spiritual life, always seems like a good idea. Whenever I read 2 Corinthians 3:18 (as opposed to Colossians 3:18 ) I always think of the last verse of a poem by Bernard de Clairvaux:Oh may our tongues forever bless May we love You alone And ever in our lives express The image of Your own (from O Jesus King Most Wonderful Trent Replied: Great quote!
