In Honor Of Marshmallows and Pretzels

As you may (or may not) be aware, Doug had a rough summer this year. Why? Because he was diagnosed with gallstones, and couldn't eat fatty foods all summer, which is a very difficult thing to do when you're traveling from camp to camp, and the most common meal is...

BUT...there were two foods that Doug ate a lot of this summer...

In fact, one week this summer, Doug spent every afternoon doing this...

One day, Doug was sitting next to the marshmallow roasting fire, munching on some of his fat free pretzels, when he had a brilliant idea (at least, he thought it was brilliant!). He looked at his pretzel. He looked at his marshmallow. He thought...Hmmm! I bet those marshmallows would fit through the holes in those pretzels!

Sure enough, with just a little bit of work, he was able to shove two marshmallows into the larger sections of the pretzel. And I bet you can guess what came next, right?

Yes indeed, he put the marshmallows onto his forked roasting stick, and roasted them.

The result was very interesting. The pretzel got quite hot, which meant that it helped to cook the marshmallow very quickly. In just a short time, Doug had roasted marshmallows that were quite puffy and golden brown, and completely gooey on the inside.

Mmmm Mmm!

One word of caution though...since the pretzel gets quite hot, after you take it away from the fire, you'll want to let the pretzel cool just a little bit before you grab onto it to peel the whole gooey mess off your roasting stick!

Finally, Doug asked me to tell you all that Pretzels are a very mathematical snack. Leave it to Doug to try to come up with the mathematics of pretzels.
