Possessing the Land

On this day in history, the United States purchased Louisiana from France. $15 million dollars for an undetermined extent of land. Although they had only planned to purchase shipping rights to New Orleans, Napoleon had a war machine to feed. He was in a mood for a deal.
Now just imagine, President Jefferson lets the citizenry know that everything west of the Mississippi was open to settlement. They could head west anytime. All the richness of the plains was open for any and every citizen. Then no one went.
No one traveled the Oregon Trail. No one left St. Louis in search of a new life. Lewis and Clark stayed in the east and built up their individual fortunes.
Our history would read quite differently.
God's Word teaches us the important truth of Appropriation, taking position of the "land" that was purchased for us at the cross.
Ephesians 1:3
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,
Now just imagine, the Lord of Creation, lets His "citizenry" know that all spiritual blessings are theirs. They no longer need to live in power of the flesh. All the richness of God's land of rest is open for any and every true citizen. But you choose not to go.
Our history would read quite differently. William Carey may have been the "Doc Martin" of his day. Hudson Taylor may have made a great medical doctor. C.T. Studd could have settled in and waited for his inductment into the cricket hall of fame.
Joshua 18:3
Then Joshua said to the children of Israel: “How long will you neglect to go and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers has given you?"
