Which is the Pot?

This picture posted on the Guardian website reveals how upset that certain Muslim groups are because of this man's statements.

Here is the statement that has them upset. It is a direct quote from the Vatican transcript/translation of Joseph's speech before his alma mater
Quote:
"Without descending to details, such as the difference in treatment accorded to those who have the 'Book' and the 'infidels,' he turns to his interlocutor somewhat brusquely with the central question on the relationship between religion and violence in general, in these words: 'Show me just what Mohamed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached.'

The emperor goes on to explain in detail the reasons why spreading the faith through violence is something unreasonable. Violence is incompatible with the nature of God and the nature of the soul. 'God is not pleased by blood, and not acting reasonably ('syn logo') is contrary to God's nature. Faith is born of the soul, not the body. Whoever would lead someone to faith needs the ability to speak well and to reason properly, without violence and threats.... To convince a reasonable soul, one does not need a strong arm, or weapons of any kind, or any other means of threatening a person with death....'"

Now, why in the world would the Muslim world expect anything else?? This is beyond my comprehension. And something I am not even going to make an attempt at deciphering.

What has prompted me to dust off my blog on this occasion is something completely different.

Latimer and Ridley being burned at the stake. This from Foxe's Book of Martyrs

I really only have one questions:

Has any ever heard of a little thing called "THE INQUISITION"?
It only lasted for over 600 years (beginning in 1184). Possibly millions were killed in horrendous ways ª. Why? They would not convert to the "Roman" brand of Christianity.

Now I'm no scholar but that sounds a little bit like "[convincing] a reasonable soul, one does not need a strong arm, or weapons of any kind, or any other means of threatening a person with death.... "

I can see how the Islamic world might get confused though. What with Joseph's predecessor kissing the Q'ran

So, which is the Pot and who is calling who black?
